Peer pressure is tough, but what’s even tougher are the consequences that follow! Is it just me, or do people tend to do some of the craziest things when there’s a big group, or a big world telling them what to do?
In our episode on peer pressure, we got people to follow us in Conga lines and do the Hokie Pokie! It was all fun and games, but it was a great illustration of how people will join in on almost anything.
I remember, as a kid, riding my bike with my cousins one day. There was a massive hill in my grandma’s back yard, and everyone was racing down the hill all afternoon! I hadn’t really learned how to ride a bike yet, but my cousins pressured me into speeding down the drive way. With enough teasing, I sped off…running into bushes, and rocks, and a tree on the way down.
My injuries were a sign to let me know that my decision to follow the rest wasn’t the best!
Being under pressure can be a real bruiser, and God knows just how difficult it is for us when we come against it. His word says in Romans 12:2, “Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
We’re surrounded by so many influences everyday and it can seem like the normal thing to follow along with the crowd. But God has the best plan for our lives, and when we follow Him, we can never go wrong!
