Many of you probably know that I like corny jokes. I like clever puns and plays on words. I (only half jokingly) tell people that all I learned during my first year of college was a bunch of jokes.
It’s good to laugh.
On this show, we enjoy laughing. If you’ve ever watched our bloopers episode, you know that there’s a lot of laughing going on behind the scenes of TV One Life. We laugh at our mistakes, funny things people say, and sometimes just the goofiness of whatever we’re shooting.
We also do a lot of funny skits/segments. If you’ve ever seen the Spanish soap opera Geico spoof (see below) you know some of the crazy things we do. I can’t tell you how many takes we had to do of that because Nick and I just couldn’t get a grip (because THAT MUSTACHE!).
I think God likes for us to laugh. Proverbs 17:22 says, “A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.” Laughing is good for us. God wants us to be joyful.
Christians are so serious sometimes, and there’s definitely a time for that. We’ve all met people who just can’t get it together and we would just like them to be serious for once. Buuuut we also probably know someone who never even cracks a smile. For some reason, we tend to think that being very serious equals being holy. I don’t think that’s the case, though. Look at Jesus: he liked to play around with the kids. He was a fun guy!
Psalm 16:11 says that in the presence of God is fullness of joy! I remember being told when I was younger that “joy” there means having peace. And while the presence of God does bring peace, I don’t think that’s what that means. It means happiness!
As Christians, we should be the happiest people! So let’s have fun and laugh and experience the joy of the Lord!
