Today Apply announced the iPhone 5 and iOS6. One of the big features of iOS6 is Facebook integration. Now when you take a cool picture, or read a good article on your iPhone or iPod you won’t have to switch to your Facebook app to post it. You will be able to post to Facebook from the other apps. Facebook will go from being just an app to being completely woven into the device.
Sometimes I find that I do something similar with God. Sometimes I treat God like He is just an app in my life. There are times where I close my God app and move on to something else. There are times where I give into sin and avoid checking my God app for a little bit. Then something happens and I go back to my God app for help. I say some prayers, maybe read some scripture, then I move back to another app. There are days that I don’t even open my God app to see if there are any updates or late breaking stories.
I know I am not alone in doing this. We have many reasons for avoiding God. We may convince ourselves that we are too busy. Sometimes there is a relationship that we are unwilling to give up. Sometimes we keep God away from a bad habit we have like drinking or having sex outside of wedlock. It can be looking at pornography, our anger issues, or even the music we listen to. There are things we intentionally keep God out of. We pretend that if we don’t let God in, He won’t know about it. Whatever it is, we are preventing God from being a part of all of our lives.
This is not what God desires that we do. In Matthew 22:37-38, Jesus says, “And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment.” God wants us to give Him everything. God wants to be a part of everything in our life. God doesn’t just want to be an app in our life, He wants to be woven in to the framework of who we are. He wants to set us free from the sins and to help us prosper, but He can only do this when we are willing to give him it all.
What are some of the things you struggle to give to God?
